Leaders have a powerful desire to occupy a position of responsibility for others and to control them. For effective leaders as opposed to less effective leaders have been differentiated by their motives.

Example of leadership motives can be observed through Winston Churchill's motives of leaders:


Power Motives:
Personalized power motives - Seek power mostly to further their own interests.

Socialized power motives - used power to achieve a nation's
goal or vision.


Drive & Achievement Motives:
Churchill introduced solutions for the war and plan and set goals for Britain. Winston Churchill had impressive detailed grasp of military strategy and he was in his own right a great commander.


Strong work ethic:
Winston Churchill value hard work and not to work hard clashes with his values. He believed that Britain must win the war against Hitler and in doing so he formed a grand alliance known as the 'Big 3' consists of Churchill, Roosevelt, & Stalin


Tenacity:
Churchill's tenacity & stubbornness became a symbol of the "never say die attitude" of the British people. Churchill often discovered facts that people did not know or did not want to care. He would study the facts and present them to public even when no one wanted to listen to it.
