Leaders have certain personality traits. These characteristics contribute to leadership effectiveness in many situations as long as the leader's style fits the situation rationally well.


Leader's personality traits can be divided into 2 groups:

1. General personality traits
2. Task-related traits


The general personality traits can be observed through the example of 2 prominent leaders; Winston Churchill and Martin Luther King.

Winston Churchill
1. Competent - Winston Churchill's actions of war based on reason and moral principles.

2. Forward looking - Set goals and have vision of the future that Britain must win the war against Nazi in order to live outside the dictatorship.

3. Inspiring - Display confidence in all that you do. The way Churchill conveyed his speech gave the sense of strong leader and inspiration.

4. Courage - have the perseverance to accomplish a goal regardless of the tremendous obstacles. Winston Churchill was not afraid to speak his mind even if no one agreed with him.
