Transformational leader & Winston Churchill
There are two forms of leadership:

1. Transformational leadership focus on what the leader achieves rather than on the leader's personal characteristics and his or her relationship with group members.

2. Transactional leadership exemplified by leaders and followers being in an exchange relationship. It is very common and that it tends to be transitory as there may be lasting purpose to keep the parties together once the transition is complete.

Transformational leadership serves to change the status quo by:

a. Appealing to followers' values and their sense of higher purpose. This type of leaders expressive the issues in the current system and have a persuasive vision of what a new society/organisation could be.

b. Reframing issues so that they are paralleled with the leader's vision and the followers' values.

c. Operating at a higher stage of moral development than their followers. The leader's vision often appeals to the followers' end values.

These status quo can be demonstrated through the example of Winston Churchill's as transformational leader; Winston Churchill operated at a higher stage of moral development rather than his followers. Winston Churchill's vision during the World War II demanded to his followers' end values, for instance, Churchill fought against Nazi in order for the society to live under freedom, justice, and equality.

Many people say that transformational leaders are charismatic, however, Churchill was not a charismatic politician instead he was a model of inspirational leadership. Being an inspirational leader, Churchill gave emotional support, and made emotional appeals to Britain's people. He inspired his people to go beyond their expectations.

As transformational leaders, Churchill encouraged his people to find a way to win the battle of Britain against German and created an environment that persuaded creative thinking and instinct. He also emphasize methodical problem solving, rethinking, and give careful reasoning rather than giving unsupported opinions. Churchill made a big change for Britain by saving the nation that almost had no chance to win the war against Hitler.
